The PADI Open Water Diver program is the most widely recognised and respected rating in the world. Once certified you have the freedom to dive as a member of a buddy team to a maximum depth of 18m worldwide.
The program consists of 3 distinctive elements.
5 distinct training dives starting in shallow water and progressing to water over 2 metres deep to develop the core skills associated with SCUBA diving together with a stamina swim assessment. This training is conducted over 5 evening sessions.
Completion of 5 knowledge reviews based on self study of the Open Water manual and viewing of the Open Water DVD followed by a short exam This training is undertaken independently with email/phone support available. The knowledge reviews are assessed at the Confined Water Training sessions and the final exam is taken along with the swim stamina tests.
4 distinct dives in water up to 18 metres deep to transfer the skills learnt in Confined Water to the real diving environment This training can take place over two days at an inland dive training facility or can be incorporated within a UK or overseas dive holiday.
The PADI Open Water program, much like all PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you!
